Cafetto Coffee Machine Cleaners

Cafetto is the cleaning chemistry that keeps Australian espresso machines healthy. Dom Lara convinced Chris Short to pivot his family's Adelaide cleaning-products business into coffee — that conversation became Cafetto, and we've been stocking the full range since the very start. From Espresso Clean tablets to MFC milk line powders, Renew descaler and GC2 grinder pellets, every one of them is what we use ourselves.

Coffee machine cleaning isn't optional. Rancid milk residue inside steam wand lines is a food-safety issue. Coffee oils that build up in group heads turn shots bitter long before you notice. Scale on heating elements is the single biggest cause of premature machine death, and manufacturer warranty doesn't cover it.

The Cafetto range is built around those four risks. Espresso Clean tablets (E29, N10, S15, F23, J25) handle the group head and brew path: backflush detergents that lift coffee oil residue from screens, valves and the inside of the group. MFC (Milk Frother Cleaner) Blue, Red and Green attack milk protein and fat residue in steam wands and automatic milk systems, with different colours for different rinse-and-soak cycles. Renew descaler targets calcium scale in boilers, available in 25g sachets for a single descale or 2kg bulk for a café service program. GC2 burr cleaning pellets pass through a grinder dry, lifting old coffee oil from the burrs without water.

A subset of the range, including the LOD Green liquid descaler, Spectra Organic descaler and MFC Green milk cleaner, carries Australian Certified Organic (ACO) registration, which matters for cafés certified to use organic inputs only. Several Cafetto formulas also hold NSF A1 and A3 compliance, the international food-equipment standard for cleaning chemistry. We know these chemistries because we test them in the workshop daily.

Coffee machine cleaners look interchangeable from the outside. They're not. Choosing the right Cafetto product, and using it on the right schedule, is the difference between a machine that lasts fifteen years and one that quietly dies at five.

Espresso machine cleaners. Espresso Clean is the brand's flagship backflush detergent. It removes coffee oil residue from the group head, shower screen and three-way valve. For most home and prosumer machines, the N10 tablets (one tablet, one backflush cycle) are the simplest format. Super-automatic owners need machine-specific formulations: F23 (100 tablets) suits most Italian super-autos, S15 (100 tablets) is the equivalent for many Saeco and Philips builds, and J25 (60 tablets) is the dedicated tablet for Jura and Krups super-autos. The MFC Powder ECO 500g and N10 120-tablet packet are the commercial-volume options if you're running a café cleaning program.

Milk line cleaners. Steam wand and automatic milk system cleaning is where most home machines fail health inspections, and where café machines build up biofilm. MFC Blue powder is the daily-to-weekly milk path cleaner. MFC Red is the heavy-residue version for café volumes. MFC Green is the ACO-certified organic equivalent for organic-input cafés. The Blue Tabs format is the single-dose version of the same chemistry: drop one in the cleaning chamber, run the cycle, done.

Descaler. Renew is Cafetto's standard descaler for citric-acid-based scale removal on home and commercial machines. The 25g sachet does one descale. The 2kg bulk pack covers a café service program. Spectra Organic and LOD Green are the ACO-registered organic equivalents. If you've already installed a BWT or Pentair water filter, the descale interval stretches substantially.

Grinder maintenance. GC2 burr cleaning pellets are non-negotiable. Stale coffee oil on the burrs flattens the entire flavour profile of every shot you pull. Run a 45g GC2 sachet through your coffee grinder monthly. The GC2 450g tub is the bulk format for owners who batch the cost.

Stainless steel and barista tools. Inverso is the dedicated stainless steel cleaner for drip trays, panels and steam wands. Cino Cleano machine and milk frother cleaners cover the consumer-pack format. Cafetto's brush sets, microfibre cloth and the Haynes Lubri-Film grease used for E61 lever assemblies round out the workshop kit. Cafetto products are usually bought as a starter pack and replenished. If you're setting up a new espresso machine or grinder, the working kit is:

• Espresso Clean or Espresso Clean tablets (N10 or E29): backflush, weekly
• MFC Blue powder or Tabs: milk line, after every milk session
• Renew descaler sachet: every two to three months on filtered water, monthly on tank-only machines
• GC2 grinder cleaning pellets: monthly, regardless of grinder
